Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center announced last Wednesday that it had entered into an agreement with South China Normal University in Guangzhou, China to enable SCNU students to study at the Long Island law school.
Dean Harry Ballan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SCNU agreeing to allow graduate and undergraduate law students at SCNU study at Touro Law and earn an LL.M. graduate law degree.
“SCNU is an impressive university with excellent students,” Ballan said in a statement. “I am delighted that its students will be able to study at Touro Law and take courses with our students.”
“The MOU will promote cooperation between our two schools, enriching both, and will give students a greater understanding of the relationship between the United States and China and the role of international law in that relationship,” Ballan continued.
SCNU Dean Zhang Yongzhong hailed the landmark agreement.
“Touro Law Center is excellent at teaching its students the law,” Yongzhong said. “We look forward to collaborating with Touro Law on student exchange programs, conferences, and other academic projects.”
The agreement builds on the existing relationship between the two schools. Dr. Jin Zheng, an SCNU law professor, taught at Touro during the 2015-16 academic year. Associate Dean Rodger Citron traveled to Guangzhou to sign the MOU with SCNU in October.
“SCNU was a gracious host,” Dean Citron said. “I look forward to working with its students and faculty in the future.”
He was the first person banned from Major League Baseball for violating the league’s substance abuse policy three times.
