The Board of Managers of the Queens County Bar Association joins the rest of the New York legal community in mourning the passing of United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Justice Ginsburg’s long and illustrious legal career was one that all attorneys should admire.  Born in our sister borough of Brooklyn, she attended Cornell University and then Columbia Law School graduating first in her law school class.

She then went on to teach at Rutgers and Columbia Law and her legal career was devoted to advancing gender equality and women’s rights.

After a long and stellar career at the ACLU, where she served as a Board member, she was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1980, and on June 14, 1993, she was nominated as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court by President Clinton and approved by the Senate just 50 days later.

Her passion for the law and her fight for equality served as an inspiration to many attorneys and law students and her legal accomplishments will live on to inspire future generations.
