The Homecoming Week concert series has been expanded from a solo Manhattan concert to a five borough celebration, including a show in Queens, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday.
Queens’ free concert will take place at the historic Forest Hills Stadium on Aug. 20 in partnership with the Universal Hip Hop Museum.
“We have been working with amazing folks in the arts and culture world, folks who are legends, who believe in New York City, who want us to come back strong, who want to celebrate New Yorkers for all that they’ve done,” de Blasio said. “Don’t let that FOMO thing happen to you.”
“You're giving NYC a different shot in the arm,” he told UHHM Executive Director Rocky Bucano.
De Blasio likened the week of concerts culminating with the Great Lawn event featuring all star performers like Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon to Woodstock, promising that the regret of missing out would be the same.
The specially curated concerts will feature a variety of genres, from hip hop and Latin to dance and techno in a series that Bucano said “will be reminiscent of the days when the Bronx park jams brought people young and old together to have a good time in the spirit of peace, love and unity.”
“This weeklong celebration of music is going to be one of the most historic occasions in the city’s history,” Bucano added, promising yet-to-be announced big name performers.
The series starts Aug. 16 at Orchard Beach in the Bronx before heading to Richmond County Bank Park in Staten Island and the Brooklyn Army Terminal before stopping at the World’s Borough.
