Common App, a platform that streamlines the college application process, will have more CUNY colleges on its list, just in time for fall.
CUNY’s Baruch College, Brooklyn College, Hunter College and College of Staten Island will join Queens College on the Common App for the 2019-2020 application season, the Common App announced via a statement on Friday.
York College, LaGuardia Community College and Queensborough Community College do not utilize the Common App.
Queens College joined the application in 2018.
The Common App allows students to apply to multiple colleges with a single application, centralizing much of the same personal data that can be monotonous to type over and over again in different schools’ applications.
Marziya Hasan, a prospective CUNY student, feels that it will be easier than ever to apply to CUNY schools come fall.
“Honestly I think it’s a lot more convenient to be able to apply to multiple colleges through one app instead of applying to each separately,” the high school senior told the Eagle via text message.
Arshi Kaur, an incoming freshman at Baruch, said she had a difficult time applying to the school via its own portal.
“I think it was relatively difficult because of the CUNY website always having technical difficulties,” Kaur wrote to the Eagle via text. “And Baruch CUNY wasn’t on common app so I had to fill it out separately on their website. Sometimes the website would crash, documents wouldn’t upload, etc.”
“Having Baruch on the common app definitely creates chances of more students applying as it is a bit inconvenient for students to fill out separate applications for colleges that aren’t on common app,” Kaur continued, saying that while Baruch was helpful with questions in the application process, it will be easier to have Baruch on the Common App.
The CUNY system serves almost 275,000 students, and saw almost 74,000 new students enrolled last year.
