A burst water main flooded streets around the Queensbridge Houses early Thursday morning, surging into vehicles driving by and trapping some people in their cars.

The pipe burst at around 3:30 a.m, spewing water in the area along Vernon Boulevard and 41st Avenue. Cell phone video shows vehicles submerged in the flood while residents look on.

Some drivers and passengers had to be rescued, Patch reported.

Borough President Donovan Richards visited the scene in the daylight Thursday morning. He called on the city to invest in better water infrastructure around the largest public housing complex in the country.

“Thank you to DEP and other city agencies here trying to rectify the situation as quickly as possible — now let's invest in state-of-the-art infrastructure for all our #Queens communities,” he tweeted.
