A woman was stabbed to death in Astoria on Sunday night in what was possibly the first homicide in New York City in the new year.

The unidentified woman was found just after 8:30 p.m., unresponsive with multiple stab wounds near the intersection of 23rd Street and Broadway, according to the NYPD.

She was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Queens.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The homicide was reportedly the first killing in New York City in 2022, according to the Daily Mail. The NYPD could not confirm this fact with the Eagle.

The first deaths of 2021 came in the World’s Borough, when 20-year-old Robert Williams was fatally shot outside of the now-closed Umbrella Hotel in Kew Gardens during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

Anyone with information regarding the homicide can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on Twitter @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
