A clean-shaven candidate for city comptroller is using his fresh look to fundraise ahead of the 2021 Democratic primary.

David Weprin, a Queens assemblymember, sent out an email pitch to constituents Friday. Or, actually, his old trademark mustache did.

“I mustache you a question,” the subject line read. The sender was listed as “David’s Mustache.”

“David Weprin’s mustache here. You may remember me from back in the day. David made an important promise to me,” the email said. “He agreed to grow me back if we reach our monthly fundraising goal of bringing in $50k before the 31st.”

The email then included a link to contribute to the campaign.

Weprin formally announced his bid for city comptroller Dec. 7.

He filed his campaign with the Board of Elections in 2019 and had raised more than $172,500 by the most recent financial disclosure deadline in July.

The comptroller field also includes Bronx State Sen. Brian Benjamin, Brooklyn Councilmember Brad Lander and Brooklyn State Sen. Kevin Parker. Manhattan Councilmember Helen Rosenthal filed to run last year but has said she will no longer pursue the office.

Lander led the fundraising with $652,421 as of July 15.
