More than 60 local residents joined Community Board 3 Saturday to clean up the Flushing Bay Promenade and keep trash from entering the polluted waterway.

The gracious group of volunteers collected 70 large bags of trash, painted dozens of benches and generally tidied up a stretch from 27th Avenue in East Elmhurst to the World’s Fair Marina.

The effort coincided with City of Water Day 2020, an annual series of events to promote upkeep of New York City’s vital waterfront parks.

Personal Protective Equipment was provided to the volunteers and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation supplied the tools needed to clean up safely.

Clean up participants also included members of the NYC Sanitation Departments, Ditmars Boulevard Block Association, Dominican American Society of Queens, Elmcor Youth and Adult Activity, the Guardians of Flushing Bay, Kiwanis East Elmhurst Corona and the National Association of University Women.
