Three women injured when their car strikes telephone pole in Middle Village

Three women were injured on a misty Middle Village street after the driver of the car they were in lost control and slammed into a utility pole Wednesday.
First responders rushed to the corner of 73rd Place and Cook Avenue and transported the three victims to the hospital, where one was listed in critical condition. All three of the victims were expected to survive, according to police.
District 30 Councilmember Robert Holden, a representative of the area where the crash occurred, called the incident “horrific” in a statement on Twitter.
“73rd Place is a problem Street and we need the @NYC_DOT to take a serious look at this area,” Holden added.
A number of vehicle collisions have occurred along 73rd Place since the start of this year, NYPD data shows..
The Middle Village-Glendale area was the site of a deadly car collision on July 28, when 55-year-old Jan Galej was struck on 62nd Street near Myrtle Avenue. Galej was reportedly struck in the crosswalk by a sedan that was passing a second vehicle. Galej, who was from Glendale, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Aug. 3, according to police.
A GoFundMe established for Galej has raised more than $11,000 as of Aug. 15.
