Fourteen branches of the Queens Public Library will reopen for in-person browsing and other activities May 10, the library system said.

QPL joined the New York Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library in announcing the plan, which will see the key community spaces reopen their doors for the first time since March 2020. The three library systems moved all activities online as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic before gradually reintroducing in-person book pick-up in July 2020.

Starting May 10, patrons at select sites can browse book shelves for a set period of time and make appointments to use computers.

“Libraries are essential to building a strong equitable city, especially in the face of a global health crisis,” said QPL President and CEO Dennis Walcott. “Given the current public health conditions, the growing need for our resources and the eagerness of our staff to provide more services to the public, now is the right time to take the next step.”
