A man was killed at around 1 p.m. Tuesday when a tree smashed into his parked van in Briarwood, police said.

The tree was torn from the ground by heavy winds resulting from Tropical Storm Isaias, which also knocked out power for more than 37,000 Queens residents Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the man was white and in his 60s, but did not identify him by name. He was found pinned by the tree on the passenger side of the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene outside an apartment complex at 143-20 84th Drive, police said.
