A Halloween-themed cycling event will lead families on a tour of Western Queens this Sunday. Protected bike lanes ensure the ride isn’t too scary.

The “Spoketacular! Family Fun Ride to the East River” will set off at 11 a.m. in two groups, one starting at Lou Lodati Park in Sunnyside and another at Hallet’s Cove Park in Astoria. The ride is hosted by the Transportation Alternatives Queens Volunteer Committee.

The two groups of cyclists will pedal down the protected bike lanes on Skillman Avenue and Vernon Boulevard before meeting up in Queensbridge Park for sweets treats, all of which were donated by local parents and the office of Council member Jimmy Van Bramer.

Adult safety marshals will oversee the rides, which are open to bike enthusiasts of all ages. Family members who are less comfortable riding are welcome to meet at Queensbridge.

Costumes are encouraged but masks are required.
