Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Decide for yourself on May 28, when State Sen. Leroy Comrie and Assemblymember Alicia Hyndman host a screening of the Netflix Documentary “Grass is Greener” amid Albany’s ongoing debate of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

The screening will take place at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center (153-10 Jamaica Ave.) from 6:30p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring industry leaders, as well as Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. Hyndman and Comrie will moderate the panel.

The MRTA would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana under state law, similar to the the state's current system regulating alcohol.

Local leaders have long-argued that marijuana-related prosecution has been counterproductive and discriminated against low-income New Yorkers and people of color.
