Queensborough Community College has named Dr. Christine Mangino as its next president following a nearly two-year search.

Mangino, the provost at Hostos Community College in the Bronx, was unanimously appointed by the City University of New York’s Board of Trustees and will become the Bayside school’s sixth president on Aug. 17.

CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez said Mangino is “driven by a deeply held belief in the importance of community colleges, along with her invaluable service at CUNY as an educator and administrator.”

Mangino, herself a community college graduate, takes over from Dr. Timothy Lynch, who has served in an interim capacity since former President Diane Call’s retirement in September 2018.

“Queensborough Community College is honored to have Dr. Mangino at the helm,” Lynch said. “She is a masterful educator, and unwavering in her commitment to providing diverse student populations with access to transformational educational opportunities. Her depth and breadth of experience is invaluable, and I look forward to working with her.”

After graduating from Nassau Community College, Mangino earned degrees from St. John’s and Hofstra.

During her time as Hostos provost, the school doubled its three-year graduation rates, expanded online courses and increased the number of students participating in service learning — community-based class assignments and projects. She previously served as a New York City public and private school teacher.

“Teachers of students of all ages have the greatest impact on their learning, outcomes and success,” she said.

“One of the most important factors in engendering student success is keeping everyone — teachers, students, parents and the community — connected and invested in the learning process,” she added.
