A Queens Public Library list allows you to check out what your neighbors have been reading.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama, James Patterson and Margaret Atwood were all major players on the Queens Public Library’s list of the borough’s favorite books of 2019. The list, released last week, tracked which books were most popular for QPL customers throughout the year.

Obama’s best-selling memoir “Becoming” graced the list as the second most popular adult books of the year, along with Liane Moriarty’s “Nine Perfect Strangers,” Lisa Scottoline’s “Someone Knows,” David Baldacci’s “Redemption,” Jonathan Kellerman’s “The Wedding Guest” and Danielle Steele’s “Turning Point.”  Patterson appeared on popular book list four times, with “The Chef,” “The House Next Door,” “Liar Liar” and “The First Lady.”

Jeff Kinney was king of Queens kids’ backpacks and lazy afternoons. All 10 most-checked-out children’s books were installments in Kinney’s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series.

Some older favorites featured among Queens’ most popular ebooks of the year, including Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid's Tale,” Kevin Kwan’s “Crazy Rich Asians” and Kathryn Stockett’s “The Help.”
