One of the largest and most celebrated food festivals in Queens is on pause amid the state’s COVID-19 shutdown.

The Queens Night Market is postponed until further notice, founder John Wang announced on Tuesday. The highly successful Flushing Meadows Corona Park event was scheduled to open its sixth season on Saturday, and already had over 50 food vendors signed up.

“Hopefully the Queens Night Market can give New Yorkers something to look forward to when this situation is finally over,” Wang said in a statement. “If ever our mission of being a uniquely affordable, accessible, and welcoming community space resonated with the public, it will probably be when we emerge from this crisis, economically and emotionally strained to our limits.”

Some Queens Night Market vendors aren’t sitting idle, however. Wang and the vendors partnered with the Queens Borough President’s Office in March to serve thousands of meals to Queens hospital staff as they battle the pandemic.

Though no new opening date has been announced, the Queens Night Market still encourages vendors to apply to the food fest at bit.ly/QNM-Vendor-2020 or by emailing vendor@queensnightmarket.com.
