Queens’ new pro soccer team unveils borough-inspired crest

Strikers surging forth on the counter attack, defenders chugging down the field in pursuit of the ball, a goalkeeper soaring across the net to make a fingertip save — soccer is a game of constant motion.
So it’s only fitting that Queensboro FC, the borough’s brand new professional club, has a crest inspired by local transit, down to the smallest detail.
The QBFC logo features a purple Q capped by a crown shaped like the Queensboro Bridge. The club chose a shade of purple to match the color of the No. 7 train symbol.
The designers also created a custom typeface based on historical typography at Queensboro Plaza.
"We are making great progress every day on bringing this club to life," said Queensboro FC co-founder David Villa, a legendary Spanish striker. “March 2022 can't come soon enough, and I look forward to being back in New York to build and introduce this club to the world.”
The club will compete in the United Soccer League, a second-tier competition below Major League Soccer in the professional hierarchy.
Villa sat down with the Eagle in February to discuss the club and his commitment to Queens, where he has founded a youth soccer academy.
“I feel the passion of Queens for everything, and for soccer,” he said. “It’s the borough with more demand for soccer in the world, but without a team.”
