A Queens-raised fashion icon and artist has been named creative director of Supreme, Business of Fashion first reported.

Tremaine Emory, who also works under the name Denim Tears, will work to support the streetwear brand’s future and image.

Emory has collaborated with Alvin Ailey, Levis and Virgil Abloh. The St. Albans artist has worked with the Queens Museum and drawing from life in the borough to help inspire works from various collections, connecting fashion to the issues both within the industry and society at large.

“I love that I grew up in the same neighborhood as LL [Cool J], DJ Kool,A Tribe Called Quest,” Emory said ahead of hosting Community Day with the Queens Museum.

The designer will work with Supreme founder James Jebbia as the first new appointment to the brand’s team since it was acquired by VF Corporation in 2020.
