Publisher Simon & Schuster has moved up the release date of a tell-all text by President Donald Trump’s niece, less than two weeks after a Queens judge dismissed the Trump family’s first attempt to kill the book in the courts.
The book, written by the president’s estranged niece Mary Trump, will be released July 14 instead of July 28. It has already moved to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list.
Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist, is the daughter of the president’s late older brother Fred Trump Jr., who was reportedly mistreated by Donald Trump and father Fred Trump Sr. before his death in 1981. The memoir, titled “Too Much and Never Enough,” will shine “a bright light on the dark history of their family,” according to Simon & Schuster. The Trumps lived in Jamaica Estates during the president’s childhood.
Attorneys acting on behalf of Donald Trump’s younger brother Robert Trump tried to kill the book in Queens County Surrogate’s Court last month, citing the contents of a non-disclosure agreement related to the administration of Fred Trump Sr.’s estate in 2001. Judge Peter Kelly dismissed the complaint on June 25.
“The irrefutable conclusion is, regardless of the outcome of this matter, the administration of this estate will not be impacted one iota,” Kelly wrote in his decision.
Robert Trump’s attorneys next fought the case in state Supreme Court, achieving a temporary injunction. But a state appellate court overturned that restraining order.
“The act by a sitting president to muzzle a private citizen is just the latest in a series of disturbing behaviors which have already destabilized a fractured nation in the face of a global pandemic,” said a spokesperson for Mary Trump. “If Mary cannot comment, one can only help but wonder: what is Donald Trump so afraid of?”
