A new Chief Administrative Judge has been appointed to New York City Civil Court to oversee the court's operation across the five boroughs, officials announced Monday.

Hon. Carolyn Walker-Diallo was tapped to fill the vacancy left by Judge Anthony Cannataro after he was recently appointed to the Court of Appeals by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks.

Walker-Diallo previously served as a supervising judge in Kings County “where she adeptly navigated the many operational challenges presented by Covid-19,” according to Marks.

“An innovator leader, Judge Walker-Diallo is widely regarded for her dedicated pursuit of justice and commitment to excellence,” he added. “I very much look forward to working with her in her new capacity.”

Walker-Diallo began her legal career as a litigation associate at a private firm after graduating from New York Law School and was first elected to the bench in 2016 and has served in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

She has also worked at the New York City Law Department and Brooklyn Community Services.

Walker-Diallo is a member of the Board of Judges of the Civil Court of the City of New York, the

Metropolitan Black Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges and the

Muslim Bar Association of New York.

The appointment goes into effect Aug. 16 and was approved by Chief Judge Janet DiFiore after consultation with the Presiding Justices of the Appellate Division in the First and Second Departments, Hons. Rolando Acosta and Hector LaSalle.
