Champions Martial Arts students broke thousands of boards for a cause on June 1, raising $17,431 for the nonprofit organization Operation Child Rescue, or Operation CR.

Founded by a group of local martial arts school owners, Operation CR seeks to help children, with its ultimate goal being to feed 1 million children around the world.

“It is our mission to fight child hunger and improve the quality of life for children one state and country at a time until children are provided with the meals that they need to live better lives,” the school writes on its website

Students were given one board for every $10 they raised, with the final Break-A-Thon occurring at Cunningham Park.

State Sen. John Liu was on hand to praise the event and its participants.
