Assemblymember Michael DenDekker is reaching out to Jackson Heights’ diverse immigrant community with an upcoming town hall forum and Know Your Rights training Friday.

The Town Hall is organized by the Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans in collaboration with Queens Community House. The event will focus on immigrants’ rights and how noncitizens can avoid or protect themselves against Immigration and Customs Enforcement and individuals who exploit immigrant communities.

“There is a great deal of misinformation floating around regarding immigrant rights,” DenDekker said. “This immigrant rights workshop by CIANA will better equip our neighbors so that they will not be deprived of their rights.”

New York City deportation proceedings have surged in the past two years since President Donald Trump took office, and Queens residents account for more immigrants in deportation proceedings than any other borough resident, according to a report released by Comptroller Scott Stringer earlier this year.
