An international consortium of women judges have again invited Queens Supreme Court Justice Carmen Velasquez to participate as the U.S. representative for an annual panel discussion at the United Nations building.

Velasquez and the other panelists from the International Association of Women will discuss the critical role of women judges for advancing human rights and highlight initiatives spearheaded by women judges associations. The event is sponsored by the Ecuador Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and panelists will describe Ecuadorean women’s rights initiatives.

The Ambassador to Ecuador, the Hon. Luis Gallegos Chiriboga and IAWJ President Hon. Vanessa Ruiz will also participate.

The event takes place on March 16, midway through international Women’s Month.

Last year, the congregation of women judges accompanied Velasquez back to the Queens Criminal Courthouse for a presentation and celebration.
