Funding has been secured and construction started on a new co-working space in Jamaica, the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation announced Monday.

The space at 89-14 Parsons Blvd., formerly Queens Family Court, will be transformed into a 18,000 square foot co-working space and business training center to support local small businesses.

“Coming out of the pandemic, I cannot think of a better project to work on,” said Hope Knight, president and CEO of GJDC. “Once complete, the co-working space will bring together entrepreneurs in Southeast Queens so they can collaborate and grow, right where they live.”

The building will include shared space, technology conference capabilities and training rooms. It is estimated to support at least 126 permanent and part-time jobs, and 33 construction jobs.

Financing was made possible through the $12.8 million in New Markets Tax Credits, which supports projects in low income areas, signed off on by the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

“The center will help small businesses by connecting them to local entrepreneurs, fostering new networking opportunities and providing a space for innovation, growth, and critical job training,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Rachel Loeb.

Construction is expected to be completed in June 2022.
