A 35-year-old former NYPD highway officer was indicted by a Queens grand jury for allegedly possessing child porn Thursday.
Yavier Julio, 35, allegedly sent a video of an adult woman engaged in a sex act with a boy no older than six to someone via his cellphone in November 2019. When police investigated further, they found two other videos of children being sexually abused on his phone.
If convicted of the charges, Julio faces up to seven years in prison.
“The defendant, who is vested with enforcing the law as a member of the New York City Police Department, is accused of committing a horrible breach of trust by possessing and disseminating a video that is for all intents and purposes images of a crime scene,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
“We take these allegations extremely seriously. The officer has been immediately suspended without pay,” added NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea.
