A Flushing nonprofit founded by a candidate for State Assembly teamed up with local restaurants to deliver hundreds of meals to first responders, law enforcement officers and frontline medical workers in Queens Friday.
The service organization Asians in America was founded NYPD Detective Steven Lee, who is challenging Assemblymember Ron Kim for a seat in the state legislature. AiA partnered with some of Flushing’s favorite restaurants to prepare, pack and deliver the meals.
Participating eateries included Guan Fu Sichuan, Hope to See You, Nanxiang Xiao Long Bao, PappaRich Flushing, Spot Dessert Bar, Szechuan Mountain House and TKK Fried Chicken.
"Flushing is a microcosm of New York City and its spirit,” Lee said. “The Flushing community has given so much to me and I am honored to do my part in serving and investing in this incredible community.”
“We are indefatigable and resilient in the face of turmoil and we will come back from this stronger than ever before,” he added.
The organization delivered 600 meals over the weekend and plans to deliver at least 600 more to officers at the 109th Precinct, local firefighters and staff at Flushing Hospital Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Queens.
Full disclosure: Eagle publisher Michael Nussbaum has worked as a consultant for Steven Lee.
