Investigators have determined that the Astoria woman whose body was found decomposing in her Steinway Street apartment died as the result of a homicide.

The unidentified woman was found in the one-room apartment after cops received a 911 call about a foul odor emanating from the room on Sept. 5. Once at the scene, cops from the 114th Precinct discovered the woman, 28, unconscious and unresponsive with cuts to her chest.

A spokesperson for the NYPD told the Eagle that the body was decaying when it was found. EMS responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. A medical examiner ruled the woman’s death a homicide on Monday.

Police told the Eagle that there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment and no suspect or motive yet. An investigation remains ongoing.
