St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is looking to build back after a fire tore through their roof last Friday with a new Fire Recovery and Resiliency Fund.

There were two injuries reported and the roof and top two patient floors were damaged.

“The fire did not set us back, it just gave us the fuel to propel forward as we continue to do the great work we have been doing to support the healthcare needs of our community,” said SJEH Chief Executive Officer Jerry Walsh.

The extent of the damage is not yet known.

Though the two alarm fire temporarily shut down the emergency room on the peninsula’s only hospital, it did not cause the hospital to lose power or otherwise significantly disrupt operations.
