All New York City Schools will be closed through at least April 20 and moving to online learning by March 23 due to the coronavirus outbreak, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza announced Sunday night.

Grab-and-go breakfast and lunch will be available starting Monday, and regional enrichment centers will open later to serve children of essential personnel and vulnerable populations.

School officials are working to cater to students without devices or internet access. The city is working with Apple to purchase 300,000 iPads; T-Mobile, Verizon and Spectrum to provide internet and Google for online learning programs.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be dedicated to development and training on remote learning for teachers, who will be able to give their input on education moving forward.

“We want to be able to provide resources and support, and provide infrastructure for teachers to connect with students and students to connect with teachers and that will be clearer once teachers weigh in with us,” de Blasio said.
