Two Queens women were struck and killed by cars while crossing the street in separate incidents over the past few days, police say.
The first incident occurred on Friday, when Masae Takeda, of Elmhurst, was crossing 57th Avenue near Van Horn Street just after 11:15 a.m. She was struck by an SUV as its driver made a right turn onto 57th Avenue, cops said.
Takeda suffered severe bodily injuries, and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
The NYPD did not issue any summonses to the driver or make an arrest, but an investigation by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is currently underway.
On Sunday, a second woman was killed while she was crossing Bell Boulevard in Bayside. In that case, Dolores Soho, 88, was crossing the boulevard near 48th Avenue when she was struck by a van going westbound on 48th Avenue and turning onto Bell Boulevard.
Soho, who lived in Bayside, was discovered on the sidewalk with head and body trauma following the collision. EMS responded and rushed Soho to North Shore Manhasset Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An investigation by the New York City Police Department's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is still ongoing in that incident as well.
A total of 393 pedestrian injuries have been recorded in Queens since the start of 2020, according to NYPD data. That’s down from the 435 pedestrian injuries recorded across the same time in 2019.
