A well-funded challenger to incumbent Woodhaven Assemblymember Mike Miller picked up her first endorsement from a current city lawmaker Thursday,

Jenifer Rajkumar, who is trying to unseat six-term incumbent Miller in district 38, received the endorsement of Manhattan Councilmember Ben Kallos, co-chair of the Progressive Caucus.

Rajkumar has condemned Miller for voting against equal pay for women, marriage equality and reproductive health laws during his tenure in Albany. Kallos said those positions mean Miller “does not deserve to be in public office in my book.”

Rajkumar, he said, “is the representative that the people of this community need. She has the experience to truly make government work better for the people of New York State.”

Rajkumar is an attorney and former official in Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration. She previously lost her bid for a Manhattan assembly seat before moving to Woodhaven. She could become the first South Asian candidate elected to federal, state or city office in Queens.
