Miss Queens 2020 is not letting COVID-19 restrictions keep her from supporting the cause closest to her heart – the Alzheimer's Association.

Though this year’s Staten Island Walk to End Alzheimer’s looks a little different, Ashley Marie Davis is walking with her mother for the seventh year in a row to raise awareness and money for research by leading a team in the virtual event.

“As different as the walk is this year, I feel that communities are looking for more ways to come together, even in a socially distanced way,” Davis said. “We are motivated to raise awareness on social media and want to get our friends and families involved with the cause by joining a team.”

“Even though we are far apart, we are still together,” she added. “The mission is the same.”

Both of the great-grandparents who played a significant role in raising her had advanced dementia at the time of their death — the struggles and lessons learned while Davis was taking care of them inspired her to give back.

During her repeated participation, Davis has fostered connections with community members and other long-time participants like high school teacher Vinnie Medugno, who will emcee the virtual walk on Oct. 10.

“It is amazing that technology will bring us together for a great cause,” Medugno said.
