The Queens Supreme Court and the Macon B. Allen Black Bar Association will host an event celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. today at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom 25 of the Queens Supreme Court.

The event will feature Hon. Randall Eng as its keynote speaker, and include Hon. Joseph Zayas, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz and Jawan Finley, president of the Macon B. Allen Black Bar Association.

King was born Jan. 15, 1929, and became one of the major figures of the civil rights movement in the 1950s and ‘60s, as African-Americans fought to end segregation in the United States. King was assassinated for his work in 1968. The first Martin Luther King Jr. Day was celebrated in 1986.
