The 105th Precinct in Eastern Queens leads the borough in EDP Calls

Eastern Queens’ 105th Precinct has the highest number of 911 calls for Emotionally Disturbed Persons out of any precinct in the borough, according to a report by The City.

The precinct had 3,658 EDP calls made to 911 last year — about 10 EDP calls per day. In its coverage area is Queens Village, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Bellerose, Glen Oaks, New Hyde Park and Floral Park.

The term EDP describe a wide range of behaviors that could signal that a person has a mental illness, though not all EDP calls involve an individual with a mental illness.

There were 31,701 EDP calls made across Queens last year, compared to 23,185 in 2014.

There were 179,569 total EDP calls made citywide in 2018, 127,283 in 2014. Brooklyn’s 75th Precinct, which includes East New York and Cypress Hills, accounted for the highest number of calls in the city last year, with 5,428 in total.

The 103rd Precinct had the second highest number of calls in 2018, with 3,062. The 103rd includes the downtown Jamaica Business District, Hollis Park Gardens, Hollis, Lakewood and Jamaica.
