The New York Cosmos are back in business, a year after their league folded and the club faced an uncertain future.

To celebrate, the Cosmos and their 5 Points supporters club will rally at 6 p.m. Friday night at Astoria Tavern. There the club will unveil its 2019 season schedule.

“Fans of NYC's only independent and authentic soccer club will be out in full force,” said supporter Nicholas Alexandrakos, a community liaison for the club.

Alexandrakos lives in Astoria, a soccer-rich community that has become the epicenter of Cosmos fandom. In December 2018, the club honored its long history with a photography showcase at Astoria Tavern. Cosmos star Jonathan Borrajo fuses fútbol and fitness at a training program called SoccerShape in the neighborhood.

After several years at Brooklyn’s MCU Park, the Cosmos will play at Mitchel Field in Uniondale beginning in August. The club will compete in the new NPSL Founders Cup. The  NPSL features Cosmos B, the Brooklyn Italians and the New York Athletic Club squad.
