Nighttime hit-and-run leaves woman dead outside Jamaica subway station

Police are still on the lookout for an unidentified driver who ran away after fatally hitting a woman with his car in Jamaica.

The unidentified woman, 60, was trying to cross Archer Avenue near Sutphin Boulevard at around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday when the driver of a 2009 Hyundai Sonata allegedly hit her while driving southbound on Sutphin Boulevard.

When police and EMS arrived on scene, they found the woman lying in the street with “severe head trauma” near the entrance to the Sutphin Boulevard—Archer Avenue subway station. Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle got out of the car and fled the scene on foot.

An investigation by the 103rd Precinct is still ongoing.

There have been 31 reported traffic-related fatalities in the Queens South patrol area as of Nov. 3, according to NYPD data. That’s a 10.7 percent increase from the 28 fatalities reported in the same time span in 2018.
