Queens Supreme Court Justice Chereé Buggs was appointed last month to the Unified Court System’s Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics.

The ACJE provides ethics advice to judges, justices and quasi-judicial officials of the NYS Unified Court System. The committee’s “sole mission is to help judges comply with the Rules Governing Judicial Conduct,” according to the state courts website.

Buggs is the lone Queens judge on the committee and replaces Queens Supreme Court Justice David Eliot, who completed his five-year term. Eliot will remain on the committee as a “faculty member,” which means he remains involved in some of the ACJE work.

Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks made the appointment, which will continue through October 2024.

“Based on your experience and qualifications, I know that you will contribute greatly to the work of the advisory committee,” Marks wrote.
