An 88-year-old Astoria man died on Saturday after he was mowed down by a car five blocks away from his house, police announced on Monday.

Miguel Hernandez was crossing the street near the intersection of Crescent Street and Broadway on Jan. 11 when the driver of a 2016 Toyota sedan crashed into him, police said.

Hernandez, 88, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for head injuries. He died at the hospital the following day, police said.

The 40-year-old motorist remained on the scene and was not immediately arrested.

On Monday, the city’s medical examiner’s office determined that Hernandez’s death was due to the injuries he sustained by the collision.

This is the first pedestrian death in Queens for 2019, according to police advisory records.
