A 51-year-old woman died and three others were injured after a fire ripped through a Rego Park apartment building on Saturday, police said.
Anna Latek was found unconscious inside her fifth-floor apartment on 62nd Avenue as firefighters fought the flames. Latek, 51, suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Three neighbors were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation and remain in critical condition, police said.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined by the city’s fire marshal. The investigation remains ongoing.
