Fatal Fire in Jamaica Ruled a Homicide
/By Christina Carrega
An “unnatural” fire that claimed the lives of two Jamaica men last month has been classified as a homicide, police said.
John Wigfall and David Hawkins were found unconscious and unresponsive inside the second floor of 95-32 150th Street on December 23. Firefighters removed their bodies from the inferno and they were taken to Jamaica Hospital.
Wigfall, 86 and Hawkins, 64, both died from their injuries.
After investigating the cause of the fire, the city’s fire marshal determined that the fire was “not natural.” Police listed the pair’s deaths as a homicide.
The city’s medical examiner has not determined their cause of death as of Thursday, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
