Queensboro FC, the borough’s newest professional sports club, made quite a splash in its first 24 hour of existence.

The soccer club won’t kick off until 2021, but already international soccer stars, Queens leaders and even the New York Mets count themselves as fans. The club’s splashy website and branding has excited soccer fans who envision Queens natives taking the field for their hometown club.

Count Councilmember Francisco Moya, a diehard soccer fan, among the first Queensboro FC supporters.

“I’m a Queens boy, so to have my team coming into the borough, built on the model of local neighborhood clubs, is great,” Moya told the Eagle. “Some kid playing in Flushing Meadows Corona Park will one day be playing in the Queensboro FC jersey.”

That jersey has not yet been revealed, but stick with the Eagle — the paper that first reported on the likely new club 13 months ago — for the latest information about QBFC.
